In the off weeks between the end of the HICC Club Championships and the Spring Swiss, the Hobart Chess Club will be hosting its second adult club lecture for the year. While the HIJCC delivers lectures for our juniors every week, the senior club has been orientated towards playing, and has found it difficult to arrange time and lecturers to deliver a service for adults. However, with some crafty planning we've managed to arrange several lectures in the in-between-times between weekly tournaments.
As promised Kevin Bonham, reigning club and state champion, will be presenting a lecture on one of his favourite chess topics: Swindling. Known for his ability to swindle a win from the jaws of defeat, or the depths of a drawn position, Kevin actively seeks out swindles to add to his repertoire. There is an unwritten rule which states that if a swindle occurs Kevin must be told and shown exactly what happened! With that in mind the lecture will no doubt be full of entertaining examples and a sceptical not to be missed! See you all there.
The session will be informal, and will be instructive for juniors and seniors alike. While the start time is 7:30pm, this is subject to change as the lecture will follow on from the HICC General Meeting. Casual games will be played after the lecture.
