The annual HCC Lighning Championships was held on the 22nd of February and was won easily by David Small.
David made an impressive return to competitive chess, and to the HCC, scoring a picket fence victory in the 9 round Swiss. He did this after playing an impromptu 11 player simul against the juniors and coaches. We hope to see David at the club more as the year goes on.
In outright second place was Kevin Bonham with Ian Little claiming outright third. Joshua Perrin put in a fantastic performance to be the best of the juniors over fellow strong rivals Bradley Vince and William Rumley.
We also welcomed some more new players, Philip Hardstaff in particular scored an impressive 5 from 9 in his first appearance at the club. We hope all these players enjoyed their lightning experience and will continue to visit the club through 2016 and beyond.
