Tasmanian Rapid Championships

FORMAT:

7 round Swiss. 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move per player from move 1.

SCHEDULE:

Saturday the 12th of December

  • Opening Ceremony 11:30am

  • Round 1 - 12:00 noon

  • Round 2 - 1:30pm

  • Round 3 - 3:00pm

  • Round 4 - 4:30pm

Sunday the 13th of December

  • Round 5 - 9:30am

  • Round 6 - 11:00am

  • Round 7 - 12:30pm

  • Closing Ceremony 2:00pm

All competitors MUST enter online using the digital registration form below.

Entries close at 11:30am on Saturday the 12th of December.

FEES & LEVIES:

Entry fees may be paid on the day in cash (please tender the correct change) or by credit card. Entry fees may also be paid online prior to the event by credit card or PayPal, or by direct transfer.

  • All Competitors $30

In accordance with section 3 of the TCA Constitution, Tasmanian players not already a member of the TCA must pay an Individual TCA Membership levy in addition to their entry fee. This fee entitles the individual to all items listed under rule 3.2 of the constitution until the commencement of the next TCA financial year (rule 6.5)

PRIZES:

The Tasmanian Rapid Championships are traditionally a spirited fundraising event with book prizes only. However, the 2020 event has received very generous donations from the Ranelagh General Store and Long-Steps Ballroom Dancing, members of the wider chess community and the general public, meaning cash prizes are guaranteed.

  • 1st. - $250

  • 2nd. - $150

  • 3rd - $100

  • Best Junior - $100

  • Beth Harmon Prize - $100 (best female)

  • Best Unrated/New Player - $50

2 additional arbiters to be selected from the entrants.

BYES & NON-ATTENDANCE:

Each competitor may take up to 2 byes in addition to any generated due to pairing requirements.

  • Forced byes generated due to pairing requirements will be given a score of 1 point.

  • Voluntary byes taken in rounds 1-5 will be given a score of 0.5 points.

  • Voluntary byes taken in rounds 6 or 7 will be given a score of 0 points.

Unnotified non-attendance will attract a forfeit and 0 points. 2 instances of unnotified non-attendance will result in withdrawal from the tournament.

NOTES:

FIDE Laws 2018 apply – ringing mobiles will incur automatic loss. Entrants agree to abide by all decisions of the organisers and arbiters. The organisers reserve the right to make any changes required.
