Following the Launceston Cup, TCA President Denis McMahon announced that the 2019 Glen Gibbs Award has been awarded to John Patrick. During the presentation, Denis told John:

The Glen Gibbs Memorial is awarded annually to the person considered by the judging panel to be the most deserving junior player in Tasmania. You were the unanimous choice of all members on this year’s judging panel. We were impressed by your performance at the recent Schools Finals in Launceston, where you were the runner-up in the Secondary Schools competition, and your excellent result in the recent Northern Champions tournament. We have also noticed your consistent dedication to improving your game and your ongoing commitment to the Launceston Chess Club, the Mind Moves Club, and the Tasmanian Chess Association through regular participation in tournaments.

To assist him in his ongoing development as a player, and in recognition of his contribution to junior chess in Tasmania, the TCA has awarded him $220.
